WHY I'M STILL UPSET ACEVES WALKED

Alfredo Aceves has a number of nicknames considering he hasn't been in the league for a very long time. Some call him "Ace", and others call him "The Mexican Gangster". I like to call him "The Swiss Army Knife". He's like a swiss army knife because he is so versatile as a pitcher, and was huge for the Yankees especially during the 2009 World Championship season. It's a big disappointment that Brian Cashman decided to let him walk after the 2010 season, especially to the Boston Red Sox.Now, Aceves did miss the majority of last season with an injured back suffered in May. And, he had surgery this past off season on his injured clavicle in which he suffered during this past off season in a bike accident. The Yankees thought that Aceves would be lost for the majority, if not all, of the 2011 season--thus they released him and offered him just a minor league contract.

Of course, when Cashman let Aceves walk, Ace chose to go to the hated Boston Red Sox. Why the Red Sox? Really, if it was any other team other than Boston, even the Phillies, or Mets, I wouldn't be as disappointed. But why would you let such an asset move on with your most hated rival? At that time, Casey was steamed and wrote WHY LOSING ACEVES HURTS. He too understood why this move was bad for New York. It was clear to me that we all knew that the Red Sox would be interested considering the pitching issues they had after last season, and still probably have today--so why let him go? Evidently the Red Sox didn't think that Aceves would miss much time, so they offered him a guaranteed major league contract. In fact, he pitched in Spring Training and is currently dominating for the Red Sox in a number of roles for them this season--pitching to a 3.38 ERA in 15 games, three starts. It's quite frustrating.

This guy was going to be a major part of what the Yankees were in 2011 if they thought he was going to be healthy. In 2009 Aceves appeared in 43 games, one start, with a 3.54 ERA and a 10-1 record. He was huge in that season, and played a huge role in that World Championship team. It's very disappointing that the Yankees would let such an asset just walk away. And it's doubly frustrating that he had to go to the Red Sox.
