Tropicana field is a crap hole, everyone says it. Even Joe Maddon thinks so, read HERE, but guess what? It's life and it's baseball. Historically, some stadiums suck and others are great, but none are ever perfect. Every stadium has an obstacle. Fenway Park has the Green Monster. While it's more of an iconic part of the park, it's an obstacle. Left fielders need to learn to play balls off the wall and batters need to hit over it. Every stadium has pros and cons. Wrigley Field has the vines across the wall in the outfield. Some outfielders love it, others hate it. Well, it just so happens that the Trop is probably the worst field since the Expos' Olympic Stadium.

Well, maybe it's worse than Olympic Stadium... no, it's definitely worse, but my point is if the ball hits the catwalk or the fielder loses the ball in the roof of the Trop, that's part of the game, it's an obstacle and there's nothing we can do about it. Teams come into the Trop and like every game, they are given the ground rules. Teams follow the ground rules and the game is played. Yes, it's horrendous but that's where we are in baseball these days. No one can forfeit a game and everyone knows the rules.

People don't realize this but back before the Yankees re-did Yankee Stadium the first time, the monuments used to be on the field. I remember as a kid, my dad told me that when he was an usher at the stadium, he remembered seeing the outfielders having to sometimes scramble to go behind the monuments if the ball went back there because it was still considered a live ball. Obstacles in baseball ballparks, Guess what? It's been happening for decades, get over it.

Bottom line, Tropicana Field is terrible, but it's baseball and while the Rays need another stadium, they don't have one yet, so sit back and enjoy the game... in between your frustrations of the evil Top catwalk of course.
